Improving the communities of Nesting, Girlsta and Wadbister
The Community Development Company of Nesting (CDCN) exists to improve the community of Nesting and the surrounding area through providing new amenities and opportunities. CDCN's first task — to acquire, through a 'Community Asset Transfer', the land and property of the Aald Skül (Old School), which was the first acquisition of its kind in Shetland — has now been achieved.
This area has now been redeveloped into a community hub, featuring the Nesting Scrapstore, the Nesting Gym, CDCN's office, Polycrubs for rental, a Studio for business users, the community Foodbank, and a recreation area next to Benston Loch.
Following extensive community consultation, the Nesting, Girlsta and Wadbister Community Action Plan 2024-2034 has been published, with CDCN now focussing on delivering the identified community priorities, whilst supporting other local groups who are best placed to deliver certain projects identified within the Plan.
